The Work

Made in large square formats, the Fish paintings turn the Caspian catch into a field of movement. Bodies overlap, silver over ochre, until the individual fish dissolves into the shoal.
The series is an early statement of the artist's ecological concern: abundance painted at the moment it begins to thin.
